MARCH 2019

Sunday, March 24 – Saturday, March 30

03/24/19: The contractor drilled holes and installed metal clips on Bridge 1017 deck slab to be demolished to avoid shearing at the sawcut joint. And started the demolition of the parapet wall and overhang on Bridge 1017 deck slab and wingwall utilizing an excavator with hydraulic crusher attachment. The subcontractor Jaxon Point electrician installed under bridge lighting on Bridges 1016 and 1017 over South Capitol St. SE. The cables and luminaires were installed on the work platform support brackets.

03/25/19: The contractor drilled holes through NB-295, bridge 1016 deck slab and installed metal clips across the sawcut joints to avoid shearing of the deck slabs at the joint and continued the demolition of the parapet wall, overhang and wingwall on NB-295, Bridge 1017. The contractor also completed the removal of W-beam/Thrie beam guiderails on SB-295.

 

03/26/19: The contractor completed the demolition of the overhang parapet wall and started the demolition of the northern approach slab on existing Bridge 1017 on SB-295 and started the demolition of the parapet wall, overhang and wingwall on existing NB-295, bridge 1016. The contractor also removed W-beam/Thrie beam guiderails on NB-295.

 

03/27/19: The contractor completed the demolition of the northwestern approach slab and started the demolition of the deck slab on existing Bridge 1017 on SB-295 and started demolishing the deck slab from the northern towards the southern end. The contractor completed the demolition of the parapet wall and overhang slab and started the demolition of the northern approach slab on existing Bridge 1016 on NB-295.

 

03/28/19: The contractor continued the demolition of the deck slab on existing Bridge 1017 on SB-295 and started the demolition of the northern approach slab and deck slab on existing Bridge 1016 on NB-295. The contractor also installed wooden posts on NB-295, Bridge 1016 for shielding between demolition and traffic.

 

03/29/19: No work

Sunday, March 17 – Saturday, March 23

03/17/19: No work

03/18/19: The contractor resumed the demolition of the westside cheek wall on existing Bridge 1017, Abutment B and completed the installation of temporary wooden handrails for fall protection on existing Bridge 1017 parapet wall, left of the baseline. The contractor also started the removal of thrie beam guiderails on SB-295, left of the baseline. Phase 2 closure was achieved today.

 

03/19/19: The contractor resumed the demolition of the westside cheek wall on existing Bridge 1017, Abutment A. The contractor continued the removal of existing W-beam and thrie beam guiderails on Bridge 1017, SB-295 and resumed the removal of W-beam guiderails on Bridge 1016, NB-295.

 

03/20/19: The contractor continued to bolt down portable precast concrete barrier previously placed on SB-295, Bridge 1017. The contractor painted locations of the girders on Bridge 1017, deck slab to set the crusher equipment and also installed break line sections on Bridge 1017 deck slab proposed to be demolition.

 

03/21/19: The contractor only performed limited activities due to rain. The crews prepared and assembled plywood sheeting to be installed as demolition shield over the walk platforms on Bridges 1016 and 1017 piers and abutments.

 

03/22/19: The contractor installed demolition shields to protect the walk platforms on Bridges 1016 and 1017 Pier caps and installed demolition shields to protect the walk platforms to protect the walk platform on bridges 1016 and 1017 Abutments. The contractor drilled holes through bridge 1017 deck slab to

install temporary plate clips on the deck slab as sawcut is made prior to breaking of the slab. The subcontractor Jaxon Point on site installing temporary under bridge lighting on South Capitol St. under bridges 1016 and 1017.

03/23/19: The contractor installed wooden post and braces on the westside of the portable precast PCC barrier on SB-295, Bridge 1017 for shielding between the proposed demolition and continued the installation of demolition shields to protect the walk platforms on bridge 1017 Abutments.

Sunday, March 3 – Saturday, March 9

03/03/19: No work

03/04/19: The contractor continued to demolish the eastern cheek wall on Bridge 1016, Abutment A and prepared wooden forms for Bridge 1016 Abutment B superstructure support foundation.

 

03/05/19: The contractor started the demolition of portion of the existing pier cap on bridge 1016 and excavated and installed shoring forms for superstructure support foundation on the northside of bridge 1016 abutment B. The contractor also placed and compacted cold mix asphalt patch in potholes on various location on South Capitol St. SW under SB-295.

 

03/06/19: The contractor continued the demolition of portion of the existing pier cap on bridge 1016 and installed shoring forms for superstructure support foundation on the north face of bridge 1017 abutment B. The contractor also installed superstructure support foundation on Bridge 1017 abutment B.

 

03/07/19: The contractor placed 30.0 cubic yards of Class C concrete in superstructure jacking foundation along the north face of Bridges 1016 and 1017 Abutment B on South Capitol St, SW. The concrete was tested for slump, air content and temperature and the results were found to be within the required specifications. The contractor also continued the demolition of portion of the existing Bridge 1016 Pier cap.

 

03/08/19: The contractor resumed the chipping of concrete from underneath existing reinforcing steel on the stem wall of bridge 1017 abutment B to obtain minimum clearance under the reinforcing steel and constructed wooden steps walkway on the slope east of bridge 1016 Abutment B to access south of the bridge.
