Sunday, July 28 – Saturday, August 3
07/29/19: Contractor completed forming of bridge 1016 wingwall 2 parapet on NB-295, placed 18.5 cubic yards of Class A concrete for the parapet wall. Form work for bridge 1016 wingwall 1 parapet. formed and placed concrete on bridge 1016 parapet to encase the expansion coupling on NB-295. Fine graded to subgrade elevation for full depth pavement on NB-295, north and south of bridge 1016. Drilled holes on the stiffener to attach diaphragms on Bridge 1016 between phase A modular units.
07/30/19: Contractor completed forming of bridge 1016 wingwall 1 parapet on NB-295 and placed 25.5 cubic yards of Class A concrete for the parapet wall, the concrete was covered with wet burlap and polyethylene sheet for curing. Contractor installed rebars and formed deck extension parapet wall on NB-295 Contractor drilled holes for intermediate and end diaphragms installation on bridge 1016 between modular units 9-2 to 10-2 and 9-1 to 10-2. Contractor installed added epoxy coated rebars in widened closure joints between modular units 9-1 and 9-2, and 10-1 and 10-2 on bridge 1016 as per RFI 085.Ssand blasted the cracks at abutment “A &B” on bridge 1016 NB and for abutment “B” bridge 1017 SB.
07/31/19: Contractor completed forming of phase A, approach slabs 1 and 2 end reconstruction on bridge 1016. The crew received and placed 3.0 cubic yards of Class C concrete, high early strength. Stripped forms from on top of the UHPC between modular units 9-1 and 10-1, and 9-2 and 10-2. Started setting PCC barrier walls on NB- 295, between sta.10+60 and 11+20, right of the baseline for proposed traffic switch to the newly installed modular units. Drilled holes and installed intermediate and end diaphragms on bridge 1016 between modular units 9-2 and 10-2.
08/1/19: Contractor completed the installation of rebars and forming of bridge 1016, phase A, deck spans 1 and 2 extensions. The crew received and placed 8.5 cubic yards of Class C concrete, high early strength for the deck extension slabs. Removed PCC barrier wall from SB-295, between sta.21+00 and 22+00, right of the baseline and resetting on NB-295 between sta. 13+50 and 14+50, right of the baseline for proposed traffic switch to the newly installed modular units. Prepared steel plates to cover the block outs left on bridge 1016, wingwall 1 and 2 for the installation of proposed electrical junction boxes.
08/2/19: Contractor installed channelizing devices (PCC barrier, drums and sand filled attenuator) for traffic shift to the east end of bridge 1016 (modular units 9-1, 9-2, 10-1 and 10-2) in preparation for modular units 8-1 and 8-2 installation. Closed the right lane on NB-295 south of the bridge and shifted traffic to the right lane on bridge 1016 modules 9-1, 9-2, 10-1 and 10-2. Installed pinned down PCC barrier walls on existing NB-295, bridge 1016, approximately between sta. 11+50 and 13+50, left of the baseline for proposed traffic shift to single left lane on existing bridge 1016 during the installation of modular units 8-1 and 8-2. layout section on NB-295 existing bridge 1016 proposed to be sawcut and removed for the installation of modular units 8-1 and 8-2. Started the demolition of existing bridge 1016 deck slab, span 1 using two hoe rams. Debris were dropped onto South capitol St. SE. with existing pavement covered with plywood to avoid damages on the asphalt pavement. Installed rebars on the top segment on the northeast and southeast cheek walls on bridge 1016. Performed full depth sawcut of existing bridge 1016 deck concrete, west of girder G-3 and G-11 on SB-295, approximately between sta. 11+80 and 12+00, left of the baseline. Placed 10.02 tons of surface asphalt SM-9.5 mm on bridge 1016 approaches and pier, NB-295, approximately between sta. 11+75 and 12+75, right of the baseline at 1% slope on the bridge 1016 approaches and pier joint for smooth riding surface across modular units. 9-1, 9-2, 10-1 and 10-2.
Sunday, July 21 – Saturday, July 27
07/22/19: Contractor completed the installation of 1-inch thick steel plates over the deck extension section on bridge 1017 modular units 3-1 and 3-2 at the abutments. Removed 110 LF of existing W-beam guardrails and posts on SB-295 approximately from sta. 21+90 to 22+25 (35 LF) and from sta. 23+55 to 25+30 (175 LF), right of the baseline. Placed and compacted 9.99 tons of asphalt SM-9.5 mm wedging adjacent to installed steel plates over the proposed deck extensions of modular units 3-1 and 3-2 on Bridge 1017 abutment A and B to provide smooth riding surface. Also placed asphalt SM-9.5 adjacent to the expansion joint at the pier between modular units 3-1 and 3-2 for the same.
07/23/19: Contractor removed existing Thrie beam guardrails and posts on SB-295 bridge 1017 parapet wall, right of the baseline from abutment A to abutment B. Contractor stripped formwork for the closure pour between beam D & E on bridge 1017 SB. and start formwork for closure pour between beam H &I on bridge 1016 NB.
07/24/19: Contractor received 5.5 cubic yards of Class B concrete, mix design number 9B02303. The concrete was placed in Bridge 1016 abutment B and pier, phase B stemwall and beam seats reconstructions for proposed girders O and P. Installed formwork for closure pour between beam H &I on bridge 1016 NB. Starting removing the temporary jacking supports from the Beam E & F at abutment “A, B, & piers” on bridge 1017 SB. Continued concrete repair for Type 3 at Abutment A of Bridge 1017.
07/25/19: Contractor placed concrete at Bridge 1016, abutment A, phase B stemwall and beam seats reconstructions for proposed girders O and P. Placed flowable fill concrete to temporarily fill gaps between the existing approach and phase A approach slab on bridge 1016 for future traffic switch on NB-295. Performed hard surface demolition and common excavation for full depth pavement on NB-295 Phase A approximately from sta. 11+31 to bridge 1016 and from bridge to sta. 13+37, right of the baseline. Installed formwork for moment beam at abutment “A & B” on bridge 1016 NB. Continuing removing the temporary jacking supports from the Beam E & F at abutment “A, B, & piers” on bridge 1017 SB. Continued concrete repair for Type 3 at Abutment A of Bridge 1017.

07/15/19: Contractor performed concrete pour was Moment Slab Parapet Wall I on AFW Bridge # 1017 over I-295 SB. Contractor was drilling and installing rebars under AFW Bridge #1016 I-295 NB for Abutment A, B and Pier Stem wall Extension and Beam Seats. Contractor performed drilling for proposed Anchor Bolts installation under AFW Bridge # 1016 Abutment-A on Beam Seats Q1, R1, S1 and T1. Contractor installed formwork for Moment Slab II Parapet Wall on AFW Bridge # 1016 over I-295 NB.
07/16/19: Contractor poured concrete for AFW Bridge 1017 Deck Extension for Approach Slab I and Modular Unit 1-1,1-2; and Approach Slab II ad Modular Units 2-1,2-2. Contractor started the Moment Slab Parapet Wall II installation for AFW Bridge # 1016 over I-295 NB.
07/17/19: Contractor received temporary liquified concrete being poured on AFW Bridge # 1017, I-295 SB adjacent to approach slabs I & II. Contractor installed formwork for proposed concrete pour at parapet armor joint, NW and SW Cheek wall, and rebar installation C-C 12" x 12" on AFW Bridge # 1017, I-295 SB.
07/18/19: Contractor completed the setting of forms and placed 5.0 cubic yards of Class A concrete, mix design No. A02843 in the NW and SW cheek wall top portion SB-295, bridge 1017. The concrete was tested for slump, air content and temperature. The results were found to be within the required specifications. A set of six concrete sample cylinders (Nos. 16, 16A, 16B, 16C, 16D and 16E) was cast for compressive strength testing. The concrete was covered with wet burlap and polyethylene sheet for curing. Contractor set forms on the pier on bridge 1016 cap and beam seats reconstruction for proposed girders O and P on NB -295. Contractor placed cement grout around the coupling on the parapet at the expansion joint on SB-295, bridge 1017, left of the baseline. Contractor installed guardrails on SB-295 approaches on bridge 1016, left of the baseline. Contractor completed the placing of 12 inches compacted lift of GAB material on the full depth pavement section on SB-295 from sta. 22+00 to bridge and from bridge to sta.24+58, left of the baseline. Also placed a total of 116.62 tons of asphalt BM-25 on SB -295 full depth pavement from sta. 22+00 to bridge and from bridge to sta.24+58, left of the baseline.
07/19/19: Contractor set forms on NB-295, bridge 1016, phase B pier cap extension and beam seats reconstruction for proposed girders O and P. Contractor placed 253.47 tons of 2 inches lift of surface asphalt SM-12.5 mm on SB-295 approximately between sta. 21+00 and 25+00.The crew also placed surface asphalt at 1% slope on the bridge 1017 approach and pier joints.
07/20/19: Contractor installed modular bridge deck units 3-1 and 3-2 on SB-295 bridge 1017 phase B. Modular unit 3-2 was set followed by modular unit 3-1. The crew utilized specialty contractor, Crane Service Company’s crane to lift and set the modular units. The modular units were hauled to the job site on tractor trailers, rigged and set on span 2 and 1 as per the plan. The laminated neoprene elastomeric bearing pads on abutments A and B were attached to the modular units at the plant and the pads on the pier were set and centered on the sole plates of the girders. All safety measures were taken during the rigging, lifting and setting of the modular units.
Sunday, July 7 – Saturday, July 13
07/08/19: Contractor started the drilling of holes to install U-shaped reinforcing steel on bridge 1017 abutment B for stem wall reconstruction and beam seats for girders E and F. Contractor completed the installation of reinforcing steel and started the forming of pier cap reconstruction and beam seat for proposed girders E and F on bridge 1017 pier. Contractor stopped the work at 10am due to the inclement weather.
07/09/19: Contractor installed forms for phase B pier extension and beam seats reconstruction for proposed girders E and F on SB-295, bridge 1017 Pier. Contractor installed reinforcing steel for phase B, abutment B stem wall and beam seats reconstruction proposed girders E and F on SB-295, bridge 1017.
07/10/19: Contractor installed forms for phase B pier extension and beam seats
reconstruction for proposed girders E and F on SB-295, bridge 1017. Contractor installed reinforcing steel and forms on SB-295, bridge 1017, phase B, abutment B stem wall and beam seats reconstruction for proposed girders E and F. Contractor drilled holes to insert U-shaped reinforcing steel on NB-295, bridge 1016 abutment A and B for Phase B stem wall and beam seats reconstruction. Contractor graded and compacted 12 inches lift of GAB material on SB-295 phase A full depth pavement section between sta. 22+25 and 22+50, left of the baseline.
07/11/19: Contractor placed concrete in Bridge 1017 abutment A, phase B stem wall and
beam seats reconstructions for proposed girders E and F. Contractor started the installation of reinforcing steel on NB-295, bridge 1016 Phase B, for stem wall extension and beam seat reconstruction for proposed girders P and O. Contractor placed Styrofoam sheets between and underneath the 4”x 6” x 1/2” steel retainer angle armor joint on SB 295, bridge 1017, abutment A and B. Contractor installed no. 6 threaded dowel bars on bridge 1017 Phase A, deck extensions. Contractor installed 2” and 4” diameter electrical conduits in Wingwall 1 parapet on SB-295, bridge 1017 for proposed electrical junction box and also installed 3” diameter metal conduits in barrier wall between wingwall 1 parapet and the existing barrier wall on SB-295, approximately between sta. 24+60 and 24+70.
07/12/19: Contractor placed concrete for Bridge 1017 abutment B and Pier, phase B stem wall, pier cap and beam seats reconstructions for proposed girders E and F. Contractor placed concrete in the top section of manhole M-3 on SB-295, approximately at sta. 22+25, and in parapet wall on SB-295, approximately between sta. 24+60 and 24+70. Contractor continued the installation of reinforcing steel on NB-295, bridge 1016, Phase B, stem wall extension and beam seat reconstruction for proposed girders P and O. Contractor compacted GAB material on SB-295, between sta. 22+00 and sta. 22+35.

Sunday, June 30 – Saturday, July 6
06/30/19: Contractor jacked girders Q, R, S and T and aligned the neoprene bearing pads with the sole plates on the girders at the pier on bridge 1016. Contractor installed reinforcing steel for stemwall extension and beam seats for proposed girders E and F on bridge 1017 abutment A. Contractor continued the drilling of holes for anchor bolts at the pier of bridge 1017 on SB-295. Contractor installed No. 6 treaded dowel bars on bridge 1017, modular units 1-2 and 2-2 at abutment B.
07/01/19: Contractor completed the installation of reinforcing steel and started the setting of forms on bridge 1017, abutment A for proposed stemwall and beam seats reconstruction for girders E, F and G.
07/02/19: Contractor continued the setting of forms on bridge 1017, abutment A stemwall extension and beam seats reconstruction for proposed girders E, F and G. Contractor jacked and readjusted bearing pads on newly installed girders on bridge 1016 abutments and pier for alignments.
07/03/19: Contractor completed the forming of bridge 1017, abutment A stemwall extension and beam seats reconstruction for proposed girders E, F and G. Contractor drilled holes and insert No.5 U-shaped reinforcement steel for bridge 1017 pier cap and beam seats reconstruction.
